Qualifications required

Normally applicants should have a Certificate in Education, or its equivalent, and the equivalent of two years full-time teaching experience (or part-time equivalent) or comparable professional qualification and experience. Applications are also welcomed from potential students with five years experience, who do not possess a Certificate in Education or equivalent qualification.

Description

An Award of The University of Huddersfield

The course is designed to meet the needs of those wishing to access current educational philosopy and broaden their knowledge and understanding of practical, theoretical and policy issues including research methodologies in related areas. The course is also of value to those who are taking on greater responsibility as part of their professional role or career development.

This course is particularly suitable for those wishing to progress from a Certificate in Education.  It features a combination of taught sessions that will take place on some Saturdays at regional centres and blended learning activities online.  Alongside this will be individual support from a college tutor.

Year 1 modules:
Advanced Professional Practice
Improving Teaching and Learning
Critical Education

Year 2 modules:
Research methods
Reflective Professionalism and Learning
Major study

Modules are mainly assessed through a range of assignments, investigative reports and presentations.

Progression

Successful completion of the BA (Hons) can lead to study for the MA in Professional Development, with its specialist routes in Post-Compulsory Education and Training and Basic Skills.

Additional Information

The course is designed to meet the professional development needs of teachers or trainers in Further, Higher, Adult and Upper Secondary Education and those who work in related areas such as health, careers, police, uniformed services and private training organisations. The programme combines academic training with the development of key transferable skills to enhance intellectual independence and personal and professional effectiveness.
