The Extended National Diploma is a well established programme which develops skills and awareness in Art and Design and leads to opportunities in Higher Education in your chosen pathway.

The course is made up of 18 units which cover wider skills and experiences in Art and Design, within the first year, followed by units within your own chosen specialist area. The units are taught and experienced through project based work to enable you to develop your skills and pursue your own interests within your chosen area. Functional skills are followed by all students on this programme.

Following the interdisciplinary programme during the first year, you can choose your prefered route for the second part of the course. This will enable you to pursue your own area of interest, leading to progression to Higher Education or possibly employment in your chosen area.

Year 2 - You will follow a number of design tasks which mirror the latest contemporary trends. Your assignments will reflect the fast moving world of fashion and place an emphasis on design and construction. In addition to more specialised fashion units you will study drawing
development and the use of new computer technologies.

The preparation of a portfolio to a professional standard is a key theme in your preparation for progression. You will benefit from well planned educational visits and trips and at the end of each academic year you will take part in a celebration of student work, with a professional
catwalk presentation.

Progression

The course is designed to provide you with the understanding and skills necessary to make an informed and confident application to a specialist BA (Hons) or Foundation Degree programme.

On successful completion of this course you can also progress onto the Foundation Degree in Fashion Design and Production at Harrogate College.
