The Extended National Diploma is a well established programme which develops skills and awareness in Art and Design and leads to opportunities in Higher Education in your chosen pathway.

The course is made up of 18 units which cover wider skills and experiences in Art and Design, within the first year, followed by units within your own chosen specialist area. The units are taught and experienced through project based work to enable you to develop your skills and pursue your own interests within your chosen area. Functional skills are followed by all students on this programme.

Following the interdisciplinary programme during the first year, you can choose your prefered route for the second part of the course. This will enable you to pursue your own area of interest, leading to progression to Higher Education or possibly employment in your chosen area.

Year 2 - The Graphic Design pathway is a practical, assignment based programme to enable you to gain the necessary skills and knowledge you require to progress in this challenging sector of the art world.

Following the interdisciplinary programme during the first year you will go onto pursue a range of topics within the Graphic Design pathway.

These could include:

Typography
Advertising
Packaging
Mixed Media
Animation
Photoshop
Illustrator

You will work on a number of live projects linked to the community and employers. Annual projects include a poster design and exhibition for the National Trust at Fountains Abbey and you will be involved in projects for a variety of clients, providing relevant industry experience. To aid this, industry standard software is available on the Macs in our excellent studio facilities.

Progression

You could go onto study at BA (Hons) or Foundation Degree level in Graphic Design or in related areas including advertising, editorial design, illustration, multimedia and interactive design.

Advice on materials will be provided at interview. A studio fee will be payable before enrolment.
