Student Finance Update

Full-time Students

The Hull College Group has set its Higher Education fees at a level of £6000 per year from 2012 for new full-time undergraduate students at Hull, Goole and Harrogate. This tuition fee will apply to all new students who enrol on the first year of their course in September 2012.

This increase in fees has been brought about by a change in the way Government funds higher education institutions, which results in a reduction in the amount of public subsidy for study in higher education. The Hull College Group has worked hard to keep its proposed fees inline with the base levels proposed by Government, whilst ensuring that it continues to provide an excellent and high quality education experience for students. The Group also offers additional financial support to ensure that it continues to offer opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds to benefit from higher education.

The changes to tuition fees does not affect existing students registered on undergraduate degree programmes at the Group who will continue to pay the same fees for the duration of their full-time course. For example, if you paid £2,600 for your first year of full-time study in 2011/12, your fees for the remainder of your course will remain the same.

Existing students that progress at HCUK to ‘top-up’ their Foundation Degree to Honours level will continue to pay the original full-time fee (£2600) until they complete their honours studies.

Part-time Students

Harrogate College fees for part-time Higher Education students are in the range of £3,000-£4,500, depending on the programme of study. For the first time from September 2012 part-time students from England will not have to pay their tuition fees upfront. You can get a loan to cover the cost of your tuition, which you only start to pay back when you are earning over £21,000 a year.

What financial help can I get from HCUK?

National Scholarship Programme (NSP)
The main purpose of the NSP is to benefit individual students from disadvantaged backgrounds directly as they enter higher education (HE). It will apply to students entering HE from September 2012.

  • Each eligible student will receive a one-year payment of up to £3,000 depending on individual circumstances and assessment of individual need
  • No more than £1,000 of the overall award is to be provided as a cash bursary – the remainder of the bursary will include a fee discount and financial support towards learning resources.

Wilberforce Scholarships
Students progressing either from FE to HE or from a Foundation Degree to BA Honours can apply for one of our Scholarships. The selection process includes an application form, personal statement and focuses upon community engagement, social responsibility and citizenship. The scholarships are presented at the HE Awards Ceremony in October.

Awards for Academic Achievement
Hull College Group nurtures and supports student academic achievement, including additional financial awards for students entering with an academic profile of AAB, DDM or equivalent. The Awards for Academic Achievement will be in the form of a £1,000 cash benefit and a £1,000 fees discount.

HCUK Bursaries – Home /EU
Hull College Group offers an additional generous bursary package to eligible Higher Education students. Eligible HE students could be entitled to receive £500 per year each year for the duration of the programme, based on three years full time, or pro-rata for part-time.
